Windows Upgrade FAQ
Re-platforming: the refresh program is underway.
Why is it important for Beeks to refresh our hardware platform?
The Beeks hardware estate for ‘shared’ and ‘retail’ customers is going through an update. We are adding some new hosts upgrading some of our existing hosts and retiring some of our older hosts. This happens occasionally and is often fairly seamless, however the numbers of VPS transferred in our recent 2012 upgrade programme provided us with an opportunity to reset and improve the baseline for everyone. The improvements of the new and upgraded hardware will be accessible to all.
To keep your operations running smoothly and safely, Beeks are enforcing a free upgrade to Windows Server 2022 for all customers*/** who don’t already use the latest Windows platform.
*If you have upgraded in our recent Windows 2012 upgrade programme or have very recently created a new Window Server 2022 VPS, you are quite likely to be exempted from this programme as you will already be running on the new hardware.
**Linux OS users won’t be included in this process right now but can expect to be asked to participate (re-platforming and moving onto an up-to-date Linux Operating System) in the near future.
It is crucial to note that all VPS instances will be deleted and permanently lost if no action is taken.
What happens next?
- Click the activation button within your email to initiate the new instance. Failure to do so will lead to the deletion and loss of the current instance.
- Await an email confirming your new Windows Server 2022 instance.
- You have 14 days from the receipt of the confirmation email to transfer your applications and data from the existing VPS instance to the new one.
IMPORTANT: If no action is taken all data held within the old instance will be deleted and permanently lost.
When can I upgrade my VPS?
Now. You must click the activation button within your email. If you do not have a link, email support@beeksgroup.com
What happens if I don’t do anything?
If no action is taken, your existing Windows VPS instance will be deleted. All applications and data will be permanently lost.
Will my data be copied to the new instance automatically?
No. It is the responsibility of each tenant to migrate their data to the new server.
Once the new server is live, there will be 14 days to transfer data before the old server is deleted. We recommend promptly moving all data within this timeframe to ensure a smooth transition, prevent any data loss and avoid any workflow disruptions.
After 14 days, your old VPS and associated data will be permanently deleted.
Can I get an extension?
No. There will be a hard deadline of 14 days from the date the new server is live to transfer all applications and data from the existing VPS instance to the new one.
IMPORTANT: After 14 days all data held within the old instance will be deleted and permanently lost.
Will my new VPS have the same specs (CPU, memory, disk) as the old one?
Yes. All new instances will include – at least – the same package configuration (gold, silver or bronze) unless otherwise notified/requested.
Some of the upgraded instances will have minor upgrades to specifications such as increased CPU, memory, and disk space. There will be a minimum of 2GB memory on all new instances.
Will there be changes to my billing?
All minimum standard upgrades are free of charge.
Billing will remain the same and there are no additional charges for the upgrade to the new operating system.
In addition, please rest assured that there will be no extra charges for running the old and new instances in parallel during the 14-day transition period.
NB If your usage is greater than your current plan, you will be moved to the correct plan and subject to a change in billing.
Will my new VPS be set up in the same location as my existing one?
Yes. For example, if the VPS is currently located in London, the new instance will also be hosted in London.
Can I move to Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019 instead?
No. We are currently supplying Windows 2022 as the default Windows OS for all new VPS instances.
