Windows Upgrade FAQ

UPDATE: The upgrade program is underway and the expected deletion date has been extended.

Why is it important to upgrade from Windows Server 2012 (or older)?

Extended support for Windows Server 20121is ending. This means that Microsoft will no longer provide regular security updates, bug fixes, or technical support for that operating system.

To keep your operations running smoothly and safely, Beeks is enforcing a free upgrade of all instances running on Windows Server 2012to Windows Server 2022.

The roll-out will begin with all London and New York instances.

It is crucial to note that all Windows 2012instances will be deleted and permanently lost if no action is taken.

What happens next?

1. Click the activation button within your email to initiate the new instance. Failure to do so will lead to the deletion and loss of the current instance.

2. Await an email confirming your new Windows Server 2022 instance.

3. You have 14 days from the receipt of the confirmation email to transfer your applications and data from the existing Windows Server 20121instance to the new one.

IMPORTANT: If no action is taken all data held within the old instance will be deleted and permanently lost.

When can I upgrade my VPS?

Now. You must click the activation button within your email. If you do not have a link, email support@beeksgroup.com

What happens if I don’t do anything?

If no action is taken, your existing Windows Server 20121instance will be deleted. All applications and data will be permanently lost.

Will my data be copied to the new instance automatically?

No. It is the responsibility of each tenant to migrate their data to the new server.

Once the new server is live, there will be 14 days to transfer data before the old server is deleted. We recommend promptly moving all data within this timeframe to ensure a smooth transition, prevent any data loss and avoid any workflow disruptions.

After 14 days, your old Windows 20121VPS and associated data will be permanently deleted.

Can I get an extension?

No. There will be a hard deadline of 14 days from the date the new server is live to transfer all applications and data from the existing Windows Server 20121instance to the new one.

IMPORTANT: After 14 days all data held within the old instance will be deleted and permanently lost.

Will my new VPS have the same specs (CPU, memory, disk) as the old one?

Yes. All new instances will include – at least – the same package configuration (gold, silver or bronze) unless otherwise notified/requested.

Some of the upgraded instances will have minor upgrades to specifications such as increased CPU, memory, and disk space. There will be a minimum of 2GB memory on all new instances.

Will there be changes to my billing?

All minimum standard upgrades are free of charge.

Billing will remain the same and there are no additional charges for the upgrade to the new operating system.

In addition, please rest assured that there will be no extra charges for running the old and new instances in parallel during the 14-day transition period.

NB If your usage is greater than your current plan, you will be moved to the correct plan and subject to a change in billing.

Will my new VPS be set up in the same location as my existing one?

Yes. For example, if the VPS is currently located in London, the new instance will also be hosted in London.

Can I move to Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019 instead?

No. There are no plans in place to support one-click migration to Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019.

Will this affect my Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019 instance?

No. The enforced upgrade is only applicable to virtual machines running on Windows Server 20121or older, however, we strongly recommend considering an upgrade to the newest operating system to avoid similar interruptions in the future.

This applies to all Windows Server 20121(or older) machines
